Department of Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering (JER)

Department of Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering, also known as JER, is one of the academic departments under the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (FKEE), UTHM. As its name suggests, JER, which was established in 2004, provides teaching, research activities and consultation related to mechatronic and robotic engineering. The department, which currently has a total of 26 academic and supporting staffs, is dedicated to jointly conduct the program of Bachelor Degree of Electronic Engineering with Honours (BEJ) with other departments under FKEE. The strength of JER lies on its two specialization fields namely Mechatronic and Automation System & Control. These two fields cover a broad spectrum in mechatronic and robotic engineering areas such as:

  • instrumentations
  • automation
  • mechatronic
  • robotics
  • vision systems

 

To thrive the research activities in JER, the department has established a focus group called Advanced Mechatronic Research Group (AdMiRe), which consists of the following sub-groups:

  • Rehabilitation Engineering
  • Sensing Technology
  • Modeling & Control
  • Intelligent Robotics

 

In order to support the teaching and research activities, JER provides seven (7) laboratories, each with its special purpose. For example, Industrial Robotics Laboratory provides a couple of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) systems, each consist of a number of industrial robots. Aside from teaching and research activities, several members of JER have also been the consultants for UTHM Holding, Proton and PUSPATRI.
