Knowledge Transfer Program: Arduino Programming for Robot Development (Basic Level) At Pusat Pengajian Ibnu Razak, Jempol, Negeri Sembilan – 14 September 2019 (Saturday)
The Internet of Things (IoT) Focus Group from FKEE in collaboration with the IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter had organized a Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) at Pusat Pengajian Ibnu Razak (iREC) in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan on the 14th of September 2019. The purpose of the program is to introduce a basic knowledge based on Arduino programming for robot development to the students.
Four objectives of the program have been identified which are: (1) To introduce Arduino programming using Arduino IDE software to the students; (2) To impart additional knowledge on basic electronic components and software; (3) To provide exposure on electronic circuit based on Arduino board in developing a Robot; (4) To encourage the students to get involve in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
A total number of 36 students and 6 instructors had participated in this program. The students were divided into 6 groups, where each group was given an Arduino kit kindly supplied by the IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter. Throughout the program, the students worked together with the instructor to complete all tasks, exercises and simple projects using Arduino board for robot development based on the module written by FKEE and IoT Focus Group members. The module consists of four important topics which are Introduction to Robot, Introduction to Electronic Components, Simple Arduino Project Development and Robot Demonstration. This module has five exercises on basic Arduino projects to be learned and practiced by the students. A robot demonstration was conducted by the instructor of each group, immediately after the learning and practice session.
During the program, there were no major problems or obstacles encountered by the organizing committee. The joy of learning which can be seen on the students’ faces was rewarding and it was indeed a memorable experience. It can be observed that the students, to some extent, did appreciate the knowledge on basic Arduino for robot development from their efforts and cooperation with the instructors. Overall, this program had fulfilled its objectives and hopefully, will inspire the students to build useful robots in the future.
