Basic Course on Outcome Based Education (OBE) – 27 August 2019 (Tuesday)

A half-day short course on the “Outcome Based Education” was conducted by the FKEE OBE Committee to the new academic staff on 27th of August 2019 at Seminar Room (Block QB). The intention of the short course was to expose the basic concept of the OBE as well as the introduction of an online OBE analysis system (OBESys) to them. The short course was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Kok Boon Ching and Dr. Mohamad Hairol bin Jabbar. The contents of the short course were divided into two parts – (1) The basic concept of OBE and (2) Constructive alignment and introduction to OBESys. Previously, most lecturers are teaching in traditional classroom setups which are highly "teacher-centred" or taught with fixed curricula. Nevertheless, the OBE is a shift towards "student-centred" classrooms with a focus on learning outcomes. Thus, the new academic staff have to learn on the appropriate concept and approaches of OBE to prepare themselves for the Teaching and Learning activities. Besides the basic concept of OBE, the course also provided the introduction to OBESys framework, at both programme and course levels. The instructors have shared their experiences and practices in OBE to the audiences; making it a valuable learning experience for the new academic staff.
