A Talk on Final Year Project 2 – 28 February 2019 (Thursday)

The FKEE Final Year Project Committee has organised a FYP 2 talk on Thursday, 28th February 2019. The talk took place at Lecture Hall 8, Block B1 and was divided into two session. The talk in the first session was delivered by Dr. Shipun Anuar bin Hamzah and the contents were mainly focussing on the FYP 2 activities throughout the semester and the requirements that the students must meet in completing their thesis. The talk in the second session was presented by Ts. Dr. Asmarashid bin Ponniran, on behalf of the Centre for Graduate Studies UTHM. The talk was generally about the postgraduate programmes offered by UTHM for students who are interested in continuing their study after completing their Bachelor’s Degree and also the methods of application.

The FKEE Final Year Project Committee has organised a FYP 1 talk on Thursday, 28th February 2019. The talk took place at Seminar Room B1, Block B6. At the beginning of the session, Dr. Abu Ubaidah, the Chairman of FYP Committee, shared some general information on FYP 1 activities throughout the Semester 2 of 20182019. This was then followed by a talk that was mainly about ‘How to Write a Good FYP Proposal’ by Ts. Mohamad Fauzi bin Zakaria. The talk was well-received by all the participants.

The Course on “Scientific Calculator fx-510ex: Tips and Tricks” – 28 February 2019 (Thursday)

Alhamdulillah, the Course on “Scientific Calculator fx-510ex: Tips and Tricks” has been conducted successfully. The course was attended by nearly 120 FKEE students. This course was held on 28th February 2019 at Seminar Room 2, Block G1 FKEE. The invited trainer was AP Dr. Tay Kim Gaik in which she shared her knowledge and experiences with the students on how to operate the calculator efficiently. The skills of using the calculator is essential as it helps the students in solving the questions in a fast manner without committing mistakes as they sit for their quizzes, tests and final exams.

In this course, the calculator model used was the Casio fx-570ex, which is the latest model. Thus, the main goal of this course is to expose the students to the latest functions of the calculator that are not available in the previous calculator model. One of the latest functions is to generate the QR Code of an equation as an input to the calculator by a simple operation. Graphs and other information can be also be displayed on smartphones or tablets. This course was organized by the Academic Advisory Committee with the hashtag #FKEECINTAILMU to cultivate the love and passion for knowledge among FKEE students.

IDP TALK SERIES 1 OF 2019 – 28 February 2019 (Thursday)

 IDP Made Easy: Get to Know the List of Facilities in FKEE

The IDP Talk Series is another initiative by the Capstone Project Committee of FKEE to expose the students to the related information and experiences on Integrated Design Project which presumably can assist them in answering their problems and enquiries. A sharing session by Ts. Dr. Mohd Norzali Hj Mohd has kick-started the first IDP Talk Series in 2019 on the 28th February 2019 at DKA, Block G3 UTHM. In his talk, Dr Norzali who is currently the Lab Manager in FKEE, has shared information on the laboratories available in FKEE, laboratory equipment available in each laboratory and also the facilities that can be used by IDP students. He also shared the e-CAS website where the students can request for electronic components from the Faculty. The shared information is very useful and crucial for the students in terms of project planning and management. The Committee strongly hope that the input given in this talk will help the IDP students to utilize the laboratory facilities available in the faculty to complete their IDP project.

STEM Mentor-Mentee Award 2019 at Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) – 21-23 February 2019

The STEM Mentor-Mentee Award 2019 had been held in conjunction with Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) on 21-23 February 2019 at PWTC Kuala Lumpur. UTHM had participated under the title “STEM Mentor-Mentee Daerah Batu Pahat”. UTHM was represented by FKEE and FAST. Dr. Ain Nazari, Dr. Jabbar Al-Fattah Yahaya, and Cik Fakhriah Razali represented FKEE for the award.

FKEE had highlighted all the inbound and outbound programs related to STEM which had been held in several schools in Batu Pahat district throughout 2018. The TEDSAT 2.0 was the main program being showcased with all the modules and kits had been presented to the judges.

UTHM was awarded with GOLD medal for all the initiatives that had been done for STEM. It is hoped that more primary and secondary school students will embark their future and pursue their tertiary education in these fields.

The Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (FKEE), UTHM had welcomed the visit from its Industrial Advisor, Ir. Shah Rizal Dahlan from the Petronas Group Technical Authority (GTA) which took place on 24th February 2019 at the UTHM-Fraunhofer Innovation Laboratory, FKEE. The objectives of this visit were to provide exposure to the Faculty staff and students on technical aspects of the industry and to seek advice and views on the academic programmes offered by FKEE.

A briefing on Integrated Design Project (IDP) course implementation for Semester 2 of 2018/2019 session was held on 21st February 2019 at Seminar Room 2, FKEE Complex. The briefing, which was delivered by the Chairman of Capstone Project Committee FKEE, Dr. Nor Hafizah Ngajikin, has discussed crucial information on the changes in the implementation of the course to IDP supervisors and assistant engineers. Among others, the roles of each IDP contributors (Capstone Project committee members, supervisors, assistant engineers and students) have been clarified to ensure the smooth running of the course throughout the semester. In addition, several improvements have been executed such as the selection of project themes by the IDP supervisors and the allocation of students’ workstations in FKEE laboratories. The Committee has a strong hope that this effort will enable the supervisors and students to produce innovative products to be exhibited in the IDP Showcase to be held in Week 13. As for this semester, the students taking the IDP course have to create a solution to solve the complex engineering problems under the themes of Smart Agriculture, Smart Traffic and Smart Health.

Safety Seminar for FKEE Year 1 Students – 21 February 2019 (Thursday)

An annual Safety Seminar program for FKEE Year 1 students was held at Lecture Hall DKA Block G3 on 21st February 2019. The objectives of the program are to disseminate safety information and rules that must be obeyed during teaching and learning session, to enhance knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health course and to foster awareness about safety aspect as the steps to avoid accidents in workplace. Two speakers were invited to deliver the safety topics. The first speaker, Ts. Dr. Nor Azali Bin Azmir from OSHE UTHM presented, “Health and Safety Issues on Campus and Preventive Actions”, while the second speaker, Lt. Muda (PA) Muhammad Sabri Bin Azni from SISPA UTHM presented “Emergency Response” as their topics. At the end of the program, students were given a Kahoot quiz related to the topics presented by the speakers. Three winners were chosen from the three highest Kahoot points.

FKEE was honored to receive a visit from TNCPI to share his insights and vision of future research direction with the faculty members. During the meeting, Dean of FKEE, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosli Omar presented the achievements of FKEE in terms of publication, h-index, focus group self-assessment report and statistic of postgraduate students

TNCPI congratulated team of FKEE and Institute Integrated Engineering (I2E) for securing SENA-UTHM Smart City Research Fund worth RM1 million. He has announced the international conference and exposition on invention by institutions of higher learning (PECIPTA 19) on the 22-23 September 2019 and encouraged all researchers to participate. He reminded the function of university in conjunction with the theme of “Sekolah untuk komuniti dan university untuk masyarakat”. He also shared on the directions of UTHM in 3 main directions: Value-based education, autonomy, and accountability, high level of knowledge. The Key Performance Index (KPI) of UTHM 2019 is Graduate Employability 90%, 3000 publications, 10% of international students, increase enrollment of students to 19k, income generation to RM5 million and RM25 million of new research. He pointed out that our staffs should investigate disruptive innovation that displaced the conventional technology of industry. He mentioned that our Niche area is sustainable technology & Transportation (2018-2020). Transformation is happening in 2019 in which we will focus on collaborative research with the support from GPPS, matching, impact-contract, GPP and ICI grants. Grants provided will be more to MTUC commercialization fund and MTUN matching grant, Racer-young staff (5 years PhD) and Sena traffic fund. Plausibly, Industry who contributed fund to research will receive double tax deduction incentive. In his kindness, he has reminded young researchers to achieve the university’s hope in various areas and plan their career paths for betterment.

Sharing on Application for MPC and Crest Research Grant – 13 February 2019 (Wednesday)

Intensive collaboration with the Industry is the current and future direction of a technical university because this signifies the contribution and knowledge transfer of a technical university to the Industry and Society. In promoting such activities, Associate Prof. Dr Nafarizal Nayan, Director of Microelectronic and Nanotechnology-Shamsuddin Research Center, was cordially invited by the Research and Publication Committee of FKEE to share his valuable experiences in applying for grants from the Industry on the 13th of February 2019. The two grants were awarded by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST) Research Grants, which involve close collaboration with STMicroelectronics and Nanorion Sdn. Bhd., respectively. In this talk, he stressed out on the importance of meeting the KPI as promised in the written grant and fulfilling the requirements. In both grants, delivering the projects that are demanded by the Industry will certainly bring benefits to the students and University.
