Requirements and Process for Admission of Students

The departments involved with students’ admissions are the Academic Management Office (PPA) UTHM and the Division of Student Admission Intake, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (BPKP).

a.         Domestic Entry Requirements

Applicants must have STPM and at least Grade C in general paper, additional or advanced mathematics, physics and chemistry or diploma from public universities (UA), polytechnic or equivalent with at least a CPA of 2.50 or 2 years of working experience in related fields (for those with CPA less than 2.50) or they should have a KPM Matriculation Certificate with at least grade C in mathematics, physics, chemistry and credits in Malay and a pass in English at SPM. They should have obtained at least Band 2 in the “Malaysian University English Test” (MUET).

b.        Foreign Entry Requirements

The general academic requirements for admission into undergraduate degree programmes of UTHM are:

At least three (3) principal passes in the General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced level’ (GCE) ‘A’ Level Examination (UK Educational System) obtained in one sitting;

OR

International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of six (6) subjects obtained in one sitting;

OR

A Diploma or any other Equivalent Qualification recognised by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the Senate of the University.

Any other qualifications that are recognised by the Senate of the University as equivalent to the above.

AND

TOEFL (Paper Base) with minimum 500 marks or TOEFL (IBT) with minimum 65 marks or IELTS with minimum Level 5 or MUET Band 2.

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the ‘A’ level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain

  1.        a minimum grade C in Mathematics, AND Physics OR Chemistry; AND
  2.        a minimum pass in English Language subject.

Note:-
The University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant’s academic grades received from home country.
The University reserves the right to determine an alternative relevant subject to Mathematics in the case where the applicant has not taken the subject in his / her examinations.
The applicant must be physically able to do laboratory work. In addition, applicant for the Bachelor of Electrical/Electronic Engineering must not be colour blind.
