FKEE OUTBOUND MOBILITY PROGRAM AT UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH SURAKARTA, INDONESIA – 5 UNTIL 16 APRIL 2019

During the mid-semester break, Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (FKEE) of UTHM had organized a mobility program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Indonesia. The program was held for one week, from 5th until 16th April 2019, with 15 students from the Faculty (JEK and JEL). During the program, they attended the Electrical Engineering course which is among the courses taken by the Bachelor of Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering, UMS.

The objectives of the program among others are; to expose the students with an experience in studying abroad as well as to learn the culture and lifestyle in Surakarta. This program is also conducted to establish a network of cooperation and knowledge sharing between the participants from UTHM and UMS students in the Faculty of Engineering.

Just before the departure on 5th April 2019, Dr. Jabbar as the Mobility Coordinator and Dr. Fateh had conducted a briefing to remind all students to always follow the rules, maintain a good discipline and protect the University’s reputation. After the briefing session, Dr. Fateh handed over a prize to the Top Entrepreneurs during the previously held entrepreneurship program. The students departed from UTHM at 9.00 pm and arrived at Semarang airport in Indonesia on the following day at 9.00 am where the students were greeted by the UMS representatives and brought to the hostel.

On Monday, 8th April 2019 at 9.00 am, the Dean of Engineering, Pak Nono; and other staff; Pak Dedi and Pak Omar, warmly welcomed the FKEE students. At the beginning of the session, the representative shared some general information on practicum schedules and activities to be undertaken by the students throughout the week. In the afternoon, the students were bought to the city where they were introduced to the local culture, history and activities.

In conclusion, the Outbound Mobility Program to UMS was meaningful as the students were able to appreciate the place they visited, with exposure to new knowledge and skills which would be useful in their future. This program would not be successful without the support from FKEE and UTHM in terms of financial, transportation and moral. The utmost gratitude is further extended to University Muhammadiyah Surakarta and its International Office for the opportunity given to visit and experience the local culture in Indonesia.
